A BILL to amend article two, chapter eighteen of the code of
West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as
amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated
section eight-b, relating to requiring the posting of signs
at schools advising that guns and other dangerous weapons
and tobacco products are not allowed on school property.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That article two, chapter eighteen of the code of West
Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be
amended by adding thereto a new section, designated section
eight-b, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 2. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.
ยง18-2-8b. Posting of signs regarding weapons and tobacco
products.

(a) After the first day of August, two thousand two
, every
public school shall post conspicuously, and keep so posted, at
every place of entry, a sign, no smaller than forty square
inches, so as to ensure that it is likely to be read, advising
that guns and other dangerous weapons and tobacco products are
not allowed on school property.

(b) The state board of education shall implement procedures
to ensure that each school maintains compliance with this
section.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require the posting
of signs at schools, advising that guns and other dangerous
weapons and tobacco products are not allowed on school property.

This section is new; therefore, strike-throughs and
